Summer Photos :)

Hi Everybody,
This is Amaya and Yoko.  Here are a collection of photos from this past summer that we have been meaning to share with you.  Check out our guardian's youtube channel later today for an awesome photo shoot of us too :)  We'll put a link at the end of this post.

Climbing a tree in Dartmouth with my friend icebat (Amaya).  The next two photos are from the same photo shoot
Yoko decided to curl her hair.  She looks kind of like an alien with those curlers in.  The next photos are how her curls turned out.

and here's the back view.
here we are together, please excuse Amaya's pyjamas, she just got up and didn't feel like getting dressed yet.

Yoko is helping me, I decided to take up dance again (Amaya).  Dance classes have started up again now that september has arrived.

Rosh Hashanah 2013 (5774)

Hi Everybody,
This is Becca guest posting.  Shana tova umetukah.  Which means in Hebrew:  may you all have a good and sweet new year.  In case you were confused, today was Jewish New year (rosh hashanah).  Jewish holidays start at sundown of the previous day.  One of the traditions is to dip apple into honey and eat that for a sweet upcoming year.  The Jewish year that is starting is the year: 5774

We also usually make a honey cake :)  Here I am next to the cake, i didn't know that my hair could go in a pony tail!!!   Sorry about the bonus human legs in the background, at least the dog isn't in the photo.  Sorry the picture quality isn't the greatest, it was dark.

apples and honey and my piece of honey cake yum.

That's it for now.

Picnic at Point Pleasant Park

Hi Everybody,
This is Sophia and Emma (for once and not guest posters!!!!)
A little while ago we went by bicycle on a picnic at Point Pleasant Park with our mom and her mom and dad.

eating :)
This photo and the next couple are of really old graffiti, carved into the rock by soldiers who were stationed here at Fort Ogilvie.

climbing!!!!
 We reached the top :)

These steps are huge, but we're not giving up.
Chilling on a canon.

There were really interesting shapes in the clouds.

I also wanted to mention that Doll Diaries is having a HUGE giveaway.  They're giving away the entire mix and match collection including the accessories and the new school backpack, so head on over there and enter!!!  As far as we can tell, this is open to those living outside the US too.  http://dolldiaries.com/american-girl-back-to-school-wardrobe-giveaway/

Sophia and Emma :) :)
p.s. Sorry about the quality of the photos in this blog post, somebody forgot to put the battery back in their canon camera and we had to make do with an ipod touch 4 instead.

Hi Everybody,
This is Amaya and Yoko again.
Here are some photos that we had not yet shared with you.  We'll explain about the New York part after that.

Our guardian's brother and his wife went to NYC and they actually went to the AG store and got us these shirts :)

Yoko worried about me .

I convinced her that she should climb up and join me :)

I also climbed the fence but yoko said she was NOT coming up and that it was a bad idea in general.

Soccer in the back yard!!!!

A pretty photo of Yoko.

Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Hi Everybody,
This is Amaya and Yoko.  As you know we are half Japanese.  On august 6th and august 9th 1945 atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing many people and causing long term suffering to many, many more.
We feel that it is important to remember bad things that happened as well as good things so that we can be sure they don't ever happen again.
There is a memorial park in Hiroshima
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroshima_Peace_Memorial_Park

The symbol for peace and wishes coming true is the origami crane.  There is a legend that if you fold 1000 cranes your wish will come true.  There is a children's book about a little girl called sadako that deals with radiation sickness and folding cranes.  The tradition is that if a person makes 1000 cranes in one year their wish will come true.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadako_and_the_Thousand_Paper_Cranes
There is a statue of Sadako in the Hiroshima peace park.

Here are some photos we took today.  Our guardian's oldest brother made a LOT of paper cranes more than 10 years ago for a project that he never completed but there are still many paper origami cranes here in our house even though he doesn't live here anymore.
A lot of them are mini sized and some of them are so small that nobody believes that he made them without using tweezers but really he did.

Amaya's hand
And of course this is Yoko's hand.

Yoko (with a crane on her shoulder and one on her head too).

And this is Amaya also wearing cranes.

A close up of a sea of cranes.  (we were very careful not to step on any of them).

That's it for now.

Pride Parade Halifax:)

Hi Everybody,
It's mini saige and Yoko's guardian because mini saige belongs to Yoko.  Anyhow, this post has lots of pictures from the parade.

Here I am waiting for the parade to start.  Amaya made a flag for me.

I had a great view of the parade from Yoko's guardian's pocket :)

Police horses.

Volunteer Youth Police program members and one police cadet too.

The person carrying the sign is the guardian's older brother.

RCMP (royal canadian mounted police).  This is the national police force here in Canada.  We also have city police forces and some provinces have provincial forces too.  But in many smaller and rural areas, all the law enforcement are done by the RCMP .   Yes some of them do ride horses too :)

the bus says happy pride :)

Circus performers :)

Yoko's guardian takes circus classes and she knows most of the circus performers who were in the parade including this guy on stilts.  He high fived her :)

Crazy footwear!!!!

Isn't this a large dog?  Yes he is wearing a skirt.  He doesn't look like he minds one bit :)

We saw a lot of greyhounds, sometimes called gay hounds in this kind of setting.

Another giant dog, a big black great dane wearing a lab coat!!!

An all women's football team.  Didn't know there was one here.

OMG it's a dalek on the halicon  float :)  Yes we are Dr. Who fans in this household.  At least the guardian's parents are for sure.  There is a local comic convention that takes place here in Halifax.  That's what Halicon is in case any of you were wondering.

Local roller derby team members.

Awesome peacock feathers on this costume.  Sorry it's kind of a slanted side view!!!

That's it for now.  I hope you enjoyed the parade photos.

I'm handing the blog back over to the "big girls" soon :)

Mini Saige :)
