Holidays part 2

Hi Everybody,
As promised this is part 2 written by me Amaya:)
Here I am with my present bag.  Most of my gifts were from my family back home in Japan.
This one is from my twin sister, yes I am a twin just like Sophia and Emma.
OOOOH coloured pencils, I really needed a new set.
A second gift from my twin sister.
It's a little kimono wearing stuffie dog.
My parents sent me the totoro (he's from the movie of the same name) and the journal.
Somebody pointed out that there was still something in the bag???
It's a handmade card from my siste Yoko.  Here is the outside.  It's pretty good from even a more amateur artist than I am.
Here's the inside.  In case you can't make it out, it says:  Hi Amaya, it's your one and only twin sister.  I love you and I miss you.  anyways, I hope you like the presents.
And here is that picture again of the doll that Sophia and Emma got for me.

Here are some pictures of what we got for Solstice, which is what our family celebrates.
Here we are with our stockings.

Yum!!! Maple sugar santas:)
We each got our own bag of presents.
Opening what Emma and I got for each other.
Mini winx club figures, thank you sophia!!!
We each got a nutcracker too.
Amaya is an artist, homemade sparkly wrapping paper (note from amaya:  the glitter spread everywhere).
A japanese puzzle from Japan from Whisper of the Heart, a studio Ghibli film.
We were wondering why Rebecca got an ugly doll and we DIDN'T.
Rebecca go Handsome Panther, we are quite jealous but we have a birthday coming up really soon, a chance for us to get more presents (hint, hint, hint to our human:))
And finally, we got Amaya her own (mini)AG doll:  Josephina.

Rubber band dance

Hi Everybody.
Today we had a relaxed day just enjoying time together while our human got busy making some things with the sewing machine.  She also went skating at the awesome outdoor Halifax Oval which opened today:
http://www.halifax.ca/skatehrm/index.html
Our human said she would take us skating there on our birthday (january 4th) weather permitting of course.

A few weeks ago, we went to see an amazing modern dance and ballet and hiphop and jazz fusion performance.  It was really astounding.  Here are a couple of photos taken that evening.  These were taking with our human's old smaller camera so the quality isn't that great.

Here we are standing outside the theatre waiting to go in and find seats.  This was opening night for the nutcracker too (it was in the larger downstairs theatre but the access to the balcony seats was nearby the theatre were were going to).  A few years ago our human performed in a dance show in this very same smaller theatre.
This is the display for Rubber Band dance's performance.  Here is a link to see some of their crazy moves:
http://rubberbandance.com/
They also have quite a few videos on youtube:)

So that's it for now.  Come back later this week for a holiday post.

The Princess is 16!!!!

Hi Everybody,
It's Amaya:)  Today is our human's 16th birthday.  This post is about what she and I did today.  By the way, she is The Princess because she has 4 older brothers and no sisters.  Not only that but she is the first girl born in her dad's family in 4 generations and 100 years, pretty unusual eh?
Chilling in my pjs surrounded by wrapping paper and gifts (notice anything different about the photo quality???).  Our human's biggest birthday gift was a Canon Rebel T2i:):)  and she LOVES it.
Here I am waiting for the ballet to start.  we went to see a performance of the nutcracker this afternoon.  It was a special school matinee and went as part of a homeschool group.  we really enjoyed it.  Our human knew several of the girls dancing in the show.
The next couple of photos are of displays related to the nutcracker.
This is a bulletin board advertising different shows at the Rebecca Cohn auditorium where the nutcracker performances are taking place.
Then we went to our human's grandmother's apartment to eat latkes (after stopping for a delicious soy chai latte at a cafe).  If you don't know, latkes are potato pancakes that are typically eaten during hanukah.
Then we came home to eat this beautiful cake that our human decorated last night because we knew we were going to be out all day today.  She was going for a colourful abstract look, it tasted as good as it looks (chocolate chip cake!!!)
Sweet 16:)
This is where we got the title for this post.  Our human wore this button proudly all day and itgot her lots of extra birthday greetings.

Amaya:)

Hannukah

Hi Guys,
Happy Hannukah to those of you who celebrate this holiday.  Hannukah started at sundown on the 8th of december so we are about half way through it.  Most Jewish holidays start at sundown before the day or first day of the actual holiday.
Here we are putting candles in the hanukkah menorah, also called a hannukiah.
lighting the candles
Admiring the candles:)
Here we are with our friend Rebecca, playing a game of dreidel.  We were using sunflower seeds to bet:) http://www.wikihow.com/Play-Dreidel
One of the things you eat for Hannukah are foods fried in oil, most commonly latkes (potato pancakes) but also sufganiyot (jelly filled donuts) but we are sharing a timbit instead from Tim Hortons (a chain that's a lot like Duncan Donuts)

Here come the holidays:)

Hi,  sorry we haven't posted in a while!!!  A few days ago, we decided to start decorating out house for the many december holidays that get celebrated around here.  That includes hannukah, the winter solstice and of course our human's birthday which is this coming week:)  we don't celebrate christmas but santa visits anyways on the solstice and we love decorating our tree.  The winter solstice where we live marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year.  Who wouldn't want to celebrate the return of the light as the days start to grow longer again.
Here we are looking at the calendar and realizing that the holidays are coming soon and that we should start decorating.
we invited our friends to help us.
Here are our stockings (Sophia is on the left and Emma is on the right)
Here are ALL the stockings.
Here is our first  tree (yes it's a long story but we have 2)
here is the box of all our ornaments.
Emma got tangled up in the lights so I had to help her get free:)
Hanging up the first ornaments.
Here are McKenna and Amaya hanging up ornaments.
And Rebecca and Jadyn too.
And finally Marisol.
Here we are with the fully decorated tree.
Here's another picture of the tree.  The next couple of photos are more tree shots from different angles.

In this picture you can see our poor tree leaning sideways which is why we got a second sturdier tree.  This one is a pine tree but it's really a few small plants grouped together.  The second tree (photos below) is a rosemary tree, trimmed into the triangle shape needed.  We (our humand and her family) killed our last 2 rosemary trees, wish us better luck this time.

And finally here is a closeup photo of our sun tree topper.  Welcoming the return of the sun and longer days.
Happy Holidays everybody!!!
